Colton Gordon made one appearance for the Houston Astros in the Grapefruit League, before he departed for Miami. The top left-handed pitching prospect in the system joined Team Israel in preparation for the World Baseball Classic. And on Monday, Gordon will dig his toe into the mound of LoanDepot park.

Israel slated Gordon to start the team’s second game of Pool D, facing off against Team Puerto Rico. The lefty made one exhibition appearance for Israel against the Miami Marlins on Monday, throwing 17 pitches in a one-inning start.

Astros’ West Roughed Up in Second Appearance

For the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Derek West entered Saturday’s contest with the bases loaded and one out against Chinese Taipei in the second inning. After retiring the first batter he faced, West surrendered a grand slam, blowing the door open only five outs into the game.

Although retiring the next batter in the second frame, West’s outing didn’t go up hill from there in the third. He ended his day with three earned runs on two hits and two walks, recording three outs. West threw 21 of his 41 pitches for strikes.
