Astros Prospect Stock Report 2023: Volume 1

Just like the stock market, prospects’ stock will go up and down throughout the season. Below is one hitter and one pitcher who has seen their stock rise. Here is the Astros Prospect Stock Report 2023: Volume 1.


⇑ Stock Up ⇑

Hitter – Joey Loperfido

Loperfido came into the season with his stock pointing up after finishing last year slashing .316/.408/.492 with 12 HR, 32 SB over two different levels. He started the 2023 season in High-A and was quickly promoted after 8 games. In 13 games in Double-A, the 23-year-old has hit .375 with 4 2B, 4 HR, 17 RBI and 5 SB. He has also drawn 14 walks to just 11 strikeouts. A great start to the season for one of the Astros soon to be top prospects.

2023 Stats: 21 G, .329 BA/.430 OBP/.634 SLG, 6 2B, 2 3B, 5 HR, 22 RBI, 8 SB, 172 wRC+

Pitcher – Rhett Kouba

Kouba has flown under the radar so far, but that will be over soon. The right-hander was solid following the draft last year but has gotten off to a great start in 2023. So far, he has posted a 2.70 ERA with 4 BB/32 K in 23.1 innings. In 112.1 minor league innings, he has racked up 137 strikeouts. Kouba has been the best pitcher on the Corpus Christi staff so far.

2023 Stats: 5 G, 2.70 ERA, 23.1 IP, 20 H, 7 ER, 4 BB, 32 K, 12.3 K/9
