Astros Minor League Recap: July 7th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (47-41) lost 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno was unstoppable for about 2 weeks winning 12 in a row but they have now lost 3 in a row since. Martinez was on the mound and went just 4 innings allowing 3 runs. Fresno got their scoring started in the 3rd on a Kemp solo HR and White RBI single. In the 4th they got 2 more runs on a Hernandez 2 run HR, his 8th of the season. They got 1 more in the 5th on a White sac fly to take a 5-4 lead. Unfortunately, the bullpen struggled giving up runs in the 6th, 7th, and 8th as Fresno fell 8-5.

Note: Kemp is hitting .413 over his last 10 games and .332 overall this season.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (41-44) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Dykxhoorn got the start last night for Corpus and was phenomenal. He went 7 innings allowing just 2 hits, 1 unearned run, and struck out 8. Easily his best start of the season. Corpus got on the board in the first inning on a sac fly from Davis in the first inning. They would get 3 more runs in the 6th on RBI doubles from Singleton and Mayfield and an RBI groundout from Michelena. The bullpen allowed a run in the in the 9th but that was all NW Arkansas would get.

Note: Laureano is hitting .361 with 2 HR and just 5 K over his last 10 games

A+: Buies Creek Astros (47-39) lost 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

Bower was on the mound for Buies Creek last night but he didn’t pitch well as he allowed 7 runs in 4 inning. Kessay and Pinales did have scoreless outings in relief though. Buies Creek managed just 1 run which came in the 8th inning on a Johnson solo HR, his 6th HR in High-A.

Note: Johnson has 5 HR in his last 8 games.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (49-35) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Saldana got the start last night and was very good tossing 5 scoreless innings allowing just 3 hits with 6 strikeouts. This lowered his season ERA to 3.08. Quad Cities got a run in the first inning on a Franco groundout. They would get another run in the 2nd on a Rojas RBI single. In the 3rd, Dawson connected on a solo HR, his 9th of the season. Dawson later added another solo HR, his 10th of the season. Quad Cities would add 2 more runs in the 7th on a 2 out, 2 run single from Sieber. Cionel relieved Saldana going 4 innings allowing 2 runs while picking up the save.

Note: Dawson is hitting .341 with 4 HR, 6 RBI over his last 10 games.
