Astros Minor League Recap: May 9th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (13-20) lost 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno continues to struggle losing their 4th game in a row. Coleman got the start and got roughed up allowing 6 runs, 5 earned in 4.2 innings. Fresno scored first getting 2 runs in the 2nd on an error and a bases loaded walk to Aplin. Fresno fell behind 6-2 but battled back getting 3 runs in the 6th on an error, RBI single from Fisher, and a sac fly from Tucker. West allowed 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th and the Fresno offense was unable to mount a comeback.

Note: Aplin is hitting .313 with 8 RBI over his last 10 games.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (15-17) lost 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss late for Corpus as they lose their 7th game in a row. Dykxhoorn started and pitched well going 5 innings allowing 2 runs with 1 BB/4 K. Boyd got the Hooks started well with a lead-off HR. The Hooks got another run in the 2nd on a Singleton solo HR. Singleton singled and later scored on an error in the 4th inning to give the Hooks a 3-2 lead. Sneed relieved Dykxhoorn and allowed 4 runs, 2 earned in 4.2 innings. The Hooks entered the 9th down 4-3 and were able to tie it on a Trompiz RBI single. The game went to the 10th inning and San Antonio scored twice to take a 6-4 lead. The Hooks had something brewing with two on in the 9th but Garcia grounded out to end the game.

Note: Dykxhoorn has 22 K in 23.2 innings this season.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (20-12) lost 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

Valdez was on the mound for the Astros last night and struggled a bit allowing 4 runs in 5 innings, though he did have 6 strikeouts. Buies Creek scored just 1 run on a Michelena RBI groundout in the 6th inning. Quiala relieved Valdez and while he allowed 2 runs in 4 innings, he had a phenomenal 0 BB/8 K walk to strikeout ratio.

Note: Quiala has 35 K in 26.2 innings this season.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (16-14) won 7-2 (BOX SCORE)

Nice win by Quad Cities to get back on track. Cesar got the Rive Bandits scoring started with an RBI single in the first inning. In the 2nd inning, Dawson doubled and eventually scored on an error. The River Bandits would get another run in the 4th on a Robinson RBI double. Hunt got the started and went 4 innings giving up 2 runs with 5 strikeouts. Quad Cities continued to add on getting another run in the 6th on a Dawson RBI single. The bullpen was great with Saldana tossing a scoreless inning and LaRue tossing 4 scoreless innings to close it out. Quad Cities blew it open with 3 runs in the 9th on a Benedetti sac fly, Ayarza RBI double, and a Cesar RBI single.

Note: Cesar is hitting .359 with 11 RBI over his last 10 games.
