Houston Astros Minor League Recap: September 4th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (72-70) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Nice to see Fresno closing out the season on a high note. This win will guarantee they finish above .500 as they have just one game left. Fresno fell behind early as Sacramento scored twice in the first inning. They would get one run back in the 3rd on a Kemmer RBI single. Hauschild was on the hill for the Grizzlies and went six innings allowing 4 runs. Fresno entered the 8th down 4-1 and that is when the rally started. They got singles from Moran and Worth and Garcia reached on a HBP. With two outs Singleton stepped to the plate and delivered a grand slam (his 20th HR) to give Fresno a 5-4 lead. Jankowski struck out 4 over the final 1.2 innings to pick up the save.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (84-55) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus is getting hot at the right time as they have one more game before entering the playoffs. The Hooks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Ferguson RBI double and a Tanielu RBI groundout. Emanuel got the start for the Hooks and tossed five innings allowing two runs with eight strikeouts. Corpus got another run in the 3rd on a Davis RBI single to take a 3-2 lead. Davis added a solo HR in the 8th to extend the lead to 4-2. Deemes and Dorris each tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts each. Dorris was credited with his 4th save for the Hooks.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (77-62) won 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Just like Corpus, Lancaster has been playing good baseball too. Abreu got the start last night and allowed 3 runs over 4.2 innings of work. Lancaster opened up a nice lead with five runs in the 2nd inning thanks to a Mizell 3 run HR, Correa RBI double, and Tucker RBI double. Inland Empire battled making it a 5-3 game but Lancaster would respond with three more runs in the 5th on a Muniz RBI double and Woodward 2 run single. Inland Empire would rally to get 2 in the 7th and 2 in the 9th but the Jethawks were able to hold on for the 8-7 win.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (60-78) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

One more game left for Quad Cities. Their rough stretch continued in this back and forth game. They got on the board with a run in the 2nd inning on a Rogers solo HR. They took the lead on a wild pitch in the 4th. Saldana got the start and pitched well allowing just 1 run over 4 innings. They fell behind 4-2 but got one back in the 7th on a McCall RBI groundout. They fell behind again 6-3 but countered with 2 runs in the 8th on a Wernes 2 run single. Unfortunately, they went down in order and fell 6-5.
