Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 30th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (39-39) won 23-3 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno explodes for 23 runs. Fresno jumped out to an early lead with a 2 run HR from Tucker in the first inning. In the 3rd inning Fresno scored 3 runs on an RBI double from Bregman and another 2 run HR for Tucker. In the 4th they put up 6 runs with an RBI single from Aplin, RBI single from Bregman, RBI single from Tucker, 2 run single from Moran, and an RBI single from Teoscar. They weren’t done. In the 5th inning they scored 7 runs with an RBI double from Bregman, RBI double from Kemmer, 2 run single from Moran, and a 2 run HR from Hernandez. Tucker drove in another in the 6th with an RBI double and came home on a 2 run HR from Kemmer. Tucker would cap off the scoring with another 2 run HR, his 3rd HR of the game in 8th. Rodgers got the start and allowed 1 run over 5 innings of work.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (51-26) lost 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

Rough night for the Corpus Christ bats. Sneed got the start and went 4 innings allowing 3 earned runs with 7 strikeouts. The only run Corpus scored was on a solo HR from JD Davis in the 2nd inning. Smith pitched the final 5 innings now allowing a run and striking out 3. Unfortunately the offense wasn’t able to get anything else going and Corpus fell 3-1.

  • Kyle Smith, RHP: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (39-38) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Solid win for Lancaster. James got the start in this one and allowed just 1 run over his 6.2 innings of work. The Jethawks tied the game in the 6th when Nunez scored on an error. In the 7th they would extend the lead with 3 runs thanks to an RBI double from Ballard, RBI walk from Boyd, and RBI walk from Sewald. Deemes got back on track tossing 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. Weathersby tossed a scoreless 9th to seal the win.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (35-42) won 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

QC got the scoring started when Duarte doubled and came around on a wild pitch in the first inning. They would get 3 more in the second inning with Correa scoring on a balk and Duarte driving in two with a double. Quiala got the start for the River Bandits and pitched well going 7 innings giving up 3 earned runs. In the bottom of the 6th Goedert and Porter hit back to back HRs to give Quad Cities a 6-3 lead. Murphy pitched a scoreless two innings to seal the win for Quad Cities.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (6-8) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Tri-City got the bats going last night. The ValleyCats got on the board early with 3 runs in the first inning thanks to a Wrenn 2 run HR, his 6th of the season, and a Jones RBI single. In the 4th inning they would add 5 more runs on an RBI single from Rogers, 3 run double from Birk, and an RBI single from Cameron. Hunt got the start going 2.2 innings allowing 1 earned run. He was relieved by Pinales who allowed 1 earned run over 4 innings with 7 strikeouts. Five ValleyCats had multiple hits with Cameron leading the way going 3-for-4.

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (2-6) lost 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

ROOKIE: GCL Astros (2-4) lost 9-7 (BOX SCORE)
