Houston Astros Minor League Recap: May 2nd

All four teams in the Astros system in action. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (11-12) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno is working their way back to .500 and they got closer tonight. Fresno got the scoring going in the 2nd inning with RBI singles from Heineman and Perez. Brad Peacock had another good start allowing just 2 runs, on a 2 run HR, over 6 innings with 7 K. The game stayed tied until the bottom of the 8th when doubles from Marisnick, Worth, and Aplin plated three runs. Hoyt sealed the deal with a perfect 9th including 2 strikeouts.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (11-12) won 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

Really nice win for Corpus, and they needed it. They got the scoring started with 4 runs in the top of the 1st with a 2 run single from McDonald and an RBI single from Vasquez. Starter Joe Musgrove continued to dominate like he has all season going 6 shutout innings dropping his season ERA to 0.39! Corpus was able to add on to their lead with a solo HR from McDonald, his 6th HR on the season in 3rd in last four games. Fisher and Mayfield also drove in a couple of runs.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (8-14) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Unfortunately Lancaster has been on the losing side of a lot of close games lately. Lancaster got the scoring started with Boyd drove in Muniz with a sacrifice fly. Inland Empire was able to tie the game in the bottom of the third. Elieser Hernandez has his best start this season going 5 innings and allowing just one hit. Grills pitched in relief and while he only allowed 1 run, in came in the bottom of the 9th for a walk-off win for Inland Empire.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (10-14) lost 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

Hard to have any takeaways from a 4-0 loss but there was one with this game. Starter Albert Abreu had a great outing going 6 IP allowing just 1 hit and striking out 9. He showed the dominating stuff that led to him being a potential breakout prospect. The River Bandits couldn’t get anything going with just six hits and two doubles (Mizell and Marlow).

Today’s starters according to MiLB.com:

FRE: Asher Wojciechowski (6.16 ERA)

CC: David Paulino (1.59 ERA)

LAN: Dean Deetz (2.37 ERA)

QC: TBD
