Astros Minor League Recap: June 29th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (47-33) lost 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

Thornton started for the Grizzlies last night and actually pitched really well despite allowing 4 runs. All 4 runs came in the 4th inning with the big blow being a 3 run HR. Other than that, he walked 1 and struck out 11 over 6 innings. The offense had a rough night managing just five hits, with Straw picking up two of them. They were unable to score a run and were shutout 4-0.

Note: Straw is hitting .345 in 13 AAA games.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (48-29) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Another rough night for the Hooks offense. They managed just one run on a Quintana RBI single in the 7th inning. Bostick started for the Hooks and was very good tossing 5 scoreless innings. The game would go to the 9th with the Hooks up 1-0 but Scheetz was unable to close the door as he allowed 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th. Also some disappointing news as Cesar went 0-for-4 snapping his Texas League Record hitting streak at 42 games.

Note: Bostick has a 2.43 ERA over his last 10 outings.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (44-34) won 2-0 (BOX SCORE)

Saldana started for Buies Creek and dominated tossing 5 scoreless innings. Toro got the Astros on the board early with a solo HR in the first inning, his 13th of the season. Duarte added some insurance with a solo HR in the 8th inning. Saldana was relieved by Sandoval, who was making his High-A debut. He was very good as well allowing 2 hits over 4 scoreless innings to pick up the save.

Note: Sandoval has a 0.73 ERA with 51 K in 49 innings over his last 10 games.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (43-36) won 10-3 (BOX SCORE)

This game was basically over before it even started. The River Bandits offense came out red hot picking up 8 runs in the first inning on a Sierra 2 run HR, Taylor RBI single, Schreiber RBI single, Costes RBI single, and a Beer 2 run double. Paredes started for Quad Cities and dominated striking out 7 over 5.2 scoreless innings. Beer added another RBI in the 9th on an RBI groundout. Collado allowed 3 runs in relief but Duncan was able to close the door with 2 scoreless innings.

Note: Paredes has a 1.50 ERA with 53 K in 42.0 innings this season.
