Astros Minor League Recap: May 18th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (25-17) lost 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Rough game for the Fresno pitching. The Grizzlies scored first getting a run in the 2nd on an error. El Paso responded with 3 in the bottom of the inning but Fresno would quickly retake the lead scoring 4 in the 3rd on a Marisnick 2 run HR, White solo HR, and Kemmer RBI single. Paulino got the start and allowed 4 runs in 5 innings of work. Kemmer added another RBI single in the 6th, Hoyt allowed El Paso to tie the game in the 9th and the game went to extra innings. Fresno scored one in the 10th but El Paso walked it off with 2 runs off of Boshers.

Note: Tanielu is hitting .385 over his last 10 games (1 AAA game, 9 AA games).


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (24-17) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

Just like Fresno, Corpus Christ dropped a ton one late too. Benedetti got the Hooks on the board with an RBI single in the 6th. Dykxhoorn got the start and allowed 5 runs in 6 innings. The Hooks rallied for 4 in the 8th to tie it on a Jones RBI double, Cesar RBI single, Birk RBI single, and another run scoring on a wild pitch. The Hooks took the lead in the 9th on a Cesar RB single. Unfortunately, Stutzman was only able to retire one batter in the 9th before allowing a walk and walk-off HR as Frisco won this one.

Note: Straw is hitting .436 with 11 SB over his last 10 games.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (23-17) lost 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

Valdez got the start and allowed 2 runs in 2.2 innings. Buies Creek got one run in the 6th on a McCormick RBI single. The bullpen struggled allowing 4 runs total. Buies Creek would rally in the 9th socring 3 runs on a Dawson 2 run double and Toro RBI single but ultimately came up short and lost 6-4.

Note: Toro is hitting .342 over his last 10 games.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (23-17) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

The River Bandits only scored in 1 inning but that is all they needed. In the 4th, Julks connected on a 2 run double and later scored on a Bohanek RBI single. Rosado got the start and allowed just 1 run in 4 innings. He was relieved by Sandoval who allowed 1 unearned run in 4.1 innings. Sanabria was able to close it out and seal the win.

Note: Sandoval last 5 outings – 24.1 IP, 13 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 31 K
