Astros Future Player of the Week: Ronnie Dawson

The Quad Cities River Bandits are having themselves quite a second half of the season.  After finishing in third place during the first half, they now sit atop the Midwest League’s Western Division with a 25-15 record.  One player who is having continued success during the second half is Ronnie Dawson.  So with that, Dawson has been named Astros Future Player of the Week.

Dawson, who is in his second professional season, went 14-for-29 (.483) this week and is currently working on a 12-game hitting streak.  On top of scoring eight runs for the River Bandits, he also drove in eight of his own while collecting a double, a triple, and a home run.  He struck out just twice this week and walked four times and added two stolen bases as well.  During the current streak, Dawson has raised his season average from .251 to .277 and looks like a legit candidate to move up a level at some point soon.

This is the second time this season that Ronnie Dawson has been named Player of the Week and the third time since I joined this site a little over a year ago.  Houston selected Dawson in the second round of the 2016 MLB draft.  He spent his entire first season playing for the Tri-City ValleyCats where he hit .225 in 70 games.  This season all with Quad Cities, he is hitting .277 with 13 home runs and 49 RBI.

Congratulations to Ronnie Dawson on being named Astros Future Player of the Week for the week of  July 28th to August 3rd.

HONORABLE MENTION

Former Astros Future Player of the Week Carmen Benedetti had a nice week also with Quad Cities.  Before being promoted to Buies Creek a little earlier this week, Benedetti went 9-for-22 (.409) with an RBI and three walks.  Chuckie Robinson also had a nice week for the River Bandits turning in a 12-for-32 (.375) with four doubles and five runs driven in.

Forrest Whitley picked up his third win of the season for Buies Creek (fifth overall win) going five innings allowing a run and striking out six.  Ryan Thompson of the Corpus Christi Hooks made one appearance this week going 2.2 innings and striking out six

Rogelio Armenteros improved to 5-0 with the Fresno Grizzlies this week after turning in a performance in which he went 5.2 innings with nine strikeouts.  In two levels this season, Armenteros is 7-3 with an ERA of 2.21.  He’s also recorded 106 strikeouts in 93.2 innings combined between Double-A and Triple-A.
