Quad Cities Splits Series With Clinton LumberKings
Davenport, IA- Two straight losses wasn’t going to keep Quad Cities down for long. They wanted a split series and with another great pitching performance from the pitching staff and some great defense the Bandits went back to how they started the series and shut down Clinton early.
Quad Cities got out to an early start in the second when Hector Roa lined a single to center allowing Connor Goedert to score followed later by a two out grounder to left by Dexture McCall that pushed across Osvaldo Duarte to give the Bandits a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the third they extended their lead when Christian Correa smacked a liner to center to score Goedert once again.
Jeffeson Medina was pulled after giving up the 3 runs and giving up 7 hits with 3 strikeouts. Clinton did get a run back when Conner Hale reached on a throwing error by Hernandez which allowed Rayder Ascanio to cut the Bandit lead to 3-1 after four innings of play. Things settled down in the fifth as neither team scored.
In the Bandit half of the sixth Osvaldo Duarte stepped in with one out and lined a shot that cleared the left field wall for his third homer of the season and extended the Quad Cities lead to 4-1. Hernandez was pulled after a solid 7 innings giving up 1 run on 1 hit with 6 strikeouts.
No scoring was done after the sixth giving the Bandits a 4-1 victory. Game one of the series was much like game four in which the Bandits pitching dominated and the bats were lively giving the Bandits a 7-1 win. Game two was the exact opposite as Clinton blanked the Bandits 3-0. Quad Cities starter Albert Abreu just wasn’t on his game but he did have a pretty good night. Game three saw the Bandits jump out early going up 2-0 after four innings but an 8 run outburst in the sixth gave the LumberKings the momentum they needed to win 12-4.
With all the ups and downs of this series it’s probably a good thing that Quad Cities have the day off to recover before heading to Indiana to face the Fort Wayne Tincaps in a three game series beginning Wednesday. RHP Yoanys Quiala (1-6, 3.88) gets the start for Quad Cities and RHP Chris Paddack (0-0, 2.25) will take the mound for Fort Wayne. First pitch is set for 6:05 pm CT with Jake Levy bringing you all the play by play action on K-BOB 1170 am, riverbandits.com and on the TuneIn app.
Stoney’s Shining Stars
Pitching: Jose Hernandez. He went 7 innings giving up just 1 hit with 6 strikeouts in the finale.
With six road games coming against tough opponents look for more great pitching from the Bandits against the Tincaps and Lake County Captains.
