Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 29th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (57-48) won 8-1 (BOX SCORE)

Huge 3rd inning carries the Grizzlies to victory. Rodgers was on the mound last night and once again he was very good. He finished going 7 innings allowing 1 run lowering his ERA to 2.59. The 3rd inning got started with a 2 run single from Reed. It was followed by a 2 run double from Teoscar, Singleton RBI single, Aplin RBI double, and Stassi RBI double. Fresno would get one more run in 7th on a Teoscar solo HR. Chapman closed the game with two scoreless innings.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (63-42) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Another walk-off win for Corpus. Yuhl started for the Hooks and got back to his dominant ways tossing 5 scoreless innings. Corpus jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 3 runs in the 3rd on a 2 run double from Davis and a Tanielu RBI double. Corpus added another run in the 8th on a McDonald sac fly scoring Stubbs. The Hooks went into the 9th up 4-1 but Midland was able to tie it. In the bottom of the 9th though, Hyde lead-off with a triple and scored on a Nunez RBI single to win it.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (57-46) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

4th win in a row for Lancaster last night. Deetz got the start and had one of his better outings going 6 innings, allowing 1 run with 7 strikeouts. The Jethawks got their scoring started with 2 runs in the 2nd inning with a run scoring on a wild pitch and another on a groundout. Duarte added a solo HR in the 3rd to extend the lead. In the 4th inning Ritchie hit a solo HR to extend the lead to 4-0. They got one more run in the 6th when Martin connected for his 17th HR of the season. Winkelman tossed 2.1 innings and Comer picked up the save getting the final two outs.

  • Alex Winkelman, LHP: 2.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
  • Kevin Comer, RHP: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K (SAVE)

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (49-54) lost 10-4 (BOX SCORE)

This game got away from Quad Cities early. Hernandez has been great but had a pretty rough start last night giving up 7 runs over 5 innings. Quad Cities did get on the board in the 6th inning on a McCall sac fly and Wrenn RBI groundout. The River Bandits would add 2 more in the 8th on a Wrenn RBI single and Porter RBI double but that is all they would get falling 10-4.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (22-18) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Rough night for the offense. Pinales got the start and tossed 4.1 shutout innings but did have four walks. He was relived by Serrano who gave up 2 runs in his 0.2 innings of work. Kessay finished the game with 3 scoreless innings and 5 strikeouts. The only run Tri-City got was an RBI double from Dawson in the 9th inning.

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (19-16) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)
