Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 26th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (55-46) won 1-0 (BOX SCORE)

Another 1 run win for Fresno. Valdez got the start for the Grizzlies and was dominant throwing 7 shutout innings with no walks and 7 strikeouts. Fresno got on the board in the 5th inning with an RBI single from White. That would be the only run they would get but it was more than enough. Jankowski tossed a scoreless 8th and Hoyt struck out 2 in a scoreless 9th to pick up his 27th save. He now has a 1.69 ERA with 81 K in 48 innings.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (61-41) lost 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

This game was a lot close than the score indicates. Thornton made his AA debut and pitched well going 6 innings and allowing just 2 runs (on a 2 run HR) with 5 strikeouts. Corpus got their first run in the 7th inning on a solo HR from Laureano, his 1st HR in AA. JD Davis came through with an RBI single to tie the game at 2 in the 8th. The game went to extras and with the bases loaded in the 10th, Stevens of San Antonio hit a walk-off grand slam.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (55-46) won 12-4 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster jumped out to a big early lead in this one scoring 5 times in the 3rd inning. In that inning they got a Muniz RBI single and a Woodward 3 run HR. They would add another run in the 4th on a Ferguson sac fly scoring Duarte. Lancaster put the game out of reach in the 6th scoring 5 more runs on a Sewald 2 run single and RBI singles from Ferguson, Muniz, and Woodward. Sewald would add a solo HR in the 7th. Dykxhoorn got the start giving up 4 runs, 1 earned, over 5.2 innings of work. Weathersby and Comer combined to throw 3.1 scoreless innings to close it.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (48-52) OFF

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (21-17) won 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Tri-City fell behind early in this one but battled back. Vermont put up a 5 spot in the 2nd inning but they would be held in check the rest of the game. The ValleyCats got on the board in the 3rd inning with a 2 run HR from Ayarza. They would add another 2 runs in the 5th on a Wolfe RBI double and Wolfe eventually scoring on an error.
