Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 25th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (54-46) won 7-3 (BOX SCORE)

Musgrove was on the mound last night for the Grizzlies and turned in another good start. He went 7 innings allowing 2 runs with 7 strikeouts. Both runs came on a 2 run HR in the 5th. He now has a 3.81 ERA in AAA. Fresno entered the 6th down 2-0 but put up 5 runs on Albuquerque. In that inning they got a 2 run HR from Reed, Heineman 2 run single, and an Aplin RBI single. They added to the lead with a Reed RBI double and a Hernandez RBI single in the 7th. Fields tossed a scoreless 8th and Chapman allowed a run in the 9th but Fresno picked up the W, 7-3.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (61-40) lost 10-4 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus has been slumping of late. Sneed got the start but struggled early giving up 7 runs in 4 innings of work. Corpus got on the board first though with a solo HR from Fisher, his 15th of the season. It was also his first HR since July 8th. Corpus got a run back with a Laureano RBI triple in the 5th inning. In the 7th they added two more runs on a Vasquez 2 run HR. That brought them within 3 runs but San Antonio got them right back. The game was called after the top of the 8th due to rain.

  • Cy Sneed, RHP: 4.0 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
  • Albert Minnis, LHP: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (54-46) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Jose Hernandez made his Lancaster debut and it started great before running into some trouble. He finished going 6.1 innings allowing 3 runs with 3 BB/5 K. Lancaster was down 4-0 going into the 8th inning. In the 8th, Boyd scored on a wild pitch to get the Jethawks on the board. Lancaster attempted to a comeback in the 9th with a Ballard sac fly and Boyd RBI double but Martin struck out to end the game with the tying run on 3rd.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (48-52) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss for the River Bandits. Abreu got the start but ended up giving up 4 runs, only 1 earned. Two errors by Cesar in the 4th lead to 3 unearned runs scoring. Quad Cities would battle back however scoring 3 runs in bottom of the 7th on a Hermelyn RBI single, a run scoring on a wild pitch, and a Straw RBI single. 18 year old Perez came in and was dominant. He allowed just 1 hit with no runs and 4 strikeouts over the final 4 innings of the game. Unfortunately, Quad Cities was unable to get anything else going.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (20-17) won 13-1 (BOX SCORE)

Big time win for the ValleyCats. They got this game started off right with 5 runs in the bottom of the first. In that inning they got an RBI double from Johnson, 2 run double from Dawson, and a 2 run HR from Jones. They got two more runs in the third on back to back RBI doubles from Jones and Rogers. In the 7th the ValleyCats put up another 5 spot with RBIs from Rogers, Ayarza, Wolfe, and Wrenn. Chavez started for Tri-City and was nearly unhittable allowing just 1 hit over 5 shutout innings. Hunt relieved Chavez and tossed 3 scoreless innings of his own.

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (17-15) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)
