Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 13th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (46-42) OFF

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (58-31) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Mayfield carries the Hooks to a win. Sneed was on the mound last night for the Hooks and had a nice outing. He finished going 6 innings allowing just 2 runs with 4 strikeouts. The Hooks got on the board in the bottom of the first with a Mayfield solo HR, his 5th HR in last 7 games. The Hooks would be held at 1 run until the 7th inning. With two outs, two singles and a walk loaded the bases for Mayfield and once again he came through. Mayfield provided Corpus with a 3 run double to take the lead. Peterson and West combined to allow zero runs over the last 3 innings of the game.

  • Eric Peterson, RHP: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K (WIN)
  • Aaron West, RHP: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K (SAVE)

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (47-42) won 10-9 (BOX SCORE)

Huge 3rd inning lifts Lancaster to the win. James got the starts for the Jethawks and allowed 6 runs over 4 innings, though he did strike out 5. Going into the bottom of the 3rd the Jethawks were down 5-0, but that would change. Lancaster scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. In that inning they got an RBI single from Boyd, 3 run HR from Sewald, RBI singles from Ritchie and Marlow and a 2 run double from Ferguson. Lancaster would get another 2 in the 4th on a Sewald sac fly and Ritchie RBI single. San Jose would rebound with a few runs of their own to make it 10-9 but Dorris came in and shut the door tossing 2.2 scoreless innings to pick up the save.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (41-48) lost 6-0 (BOX SCORE)

Another rough night for the River Bandits bats. Quiala got the start and kept the game scoreless for the first 5 innings. Unfortunately in the 6th it fell apart and he ended up giving up 5 runs. Quad Cities was only able to manage four hits on the night with two from Straw and two from Porter.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (13-13) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE

Big first inning dooms the ValleyCats. Winkelman was on the mound for the ValleyCats and gave up 3 runs in the first but settled down to throw 3 scoreless innings after that. Tri-City got on the board in the 3rd inning, scoring 2 runs on a Robinson 2 run double. In the 9th down 5-2, Jones added a solo HR but the ValleyCats were unable to score any more dropping this one.

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (9-11) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)
