Houston Astros MiLB Week in Review

Another week of Astros minor league baseball is in the books.  Let’s take a look at the best performances this past week.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (31-37) went 5-2 this week.

Good week for Fresno. Reed has started to heat up recently and had a great week. Nice to see the 6 extra base hits in 7 games. He now has 18 2B, 9 HR in 55 games. Tucker struggled initially after going back to AAA but now has his BA up to .262 with a .333 OBP. Moran only hit .261 but did have two doubles. Hopefully the XBHs will keep coming. Kemmer and Heineman played sparingly this week but both made impacts with the bats. Heineman is now up to .255 with a really nice .363 OBP/

Another nice outing for Rodgers. His ERA now sits a 2.99 with 9 BB/74 K in 75.1 innings. Really good season so far. Hauschild has been almost as good as Rodgers. With two great starts this week his ERA is now 3.18 with 18 BB/65 K in 76.1 innings. Valdez definitely had the line of the week tossing a complete game, 1 hit shutout. I feel like I say the same thing every week but Hoyt continues to dominate AAA hitters. He now has 61 K in 34 innings with a 1.85 ERA.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (46-23) went 7-1 this week.

Bregman didn’t hit for much average this week but still drew 7 walks and scored 8 runs. Bregman now has 34 BB/21 K on the season. Fisher had a nice week driving in five runs and hitting .320. Fisher is not hitting .276 with .394 OBP. Teoscar continues to be one of the best stories of the minor leagues this season. After another nice week he is hitting .310 with .387 OBP and 25 SB in 63 games. Nice to see Tanielu hitting in AA. He dominated the California League but has continued to have success in AA hitting .270 with 4 HR in 28 games. McDonald is a little bit of an all or nothing hitter but did well this week.

Another couple solid outings for Paulino. The 22 year old is now 4-2 with 1.86 ERA and 11 BB/66 K in 58 IP. Yuhl probably needs to be promoted. On the season he is 7-1 with a 2.10 ERA in 68.2 innings. Really nice to see Martes pick it up recently. ERA is down to 4.26 with 43 K in 50.2 innings. Sneed hit a bit of a rough patch for a few outing but got back on track this week. Peripherals still look good with 16 BB/52 K in 49.1 innings. Grills has been great since moving to AA. He a 1.98 ERA with 4 BB in 36.1 innings.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (34-35) went 2-5 this week.

Rough week overall for Lancaster. Boyd has been solid all season long and with another good week he is hitting .328 with 27 SB in 48 games. Stubbs with another nice week bringing his BA back up to .305 with .399 OBP. He has 24 BB/28 K in 46 games. Martin only had four hits this week but hit 2 HR giving him 12 HR in just 57 games.

Dykxhoorn now has a 3.81 ERA with 45 K in 56.2 innings, a very respectable number in the California League. Thonrton has been solid as well. With another good start he now has a 4.27 ERA with 13 BB/57 K in 59 innings. Armenteros is up to 56 K in 44 innings with a 3.07 ERA. James has struck out 66 in 50.2 innings. He could see Corpus soon.

A: Quad Cities Riverbandits (31-38) went 4-3 this week.

Straw has been a nice addition for QC since coming over from EST. He is hitting .313 in 26 games. McCall has been pretty consistent this season. With another solid week he is up to .287 on the season. Not mentioned above but Duarte had a few more hits and the 20 year old is hitting .262 this season.

Pitching carried the River Bandits this week. Fireballer Abreu had a solid start going 7 innings. ERA is at 5.26 but he has 71 K in 51.1 innings. Perez is off to a nice start with QC with a 2.36 ERA in his first 26.2 innings. Ferrell had two nice starts this week as he is starting to roll. E. Hernandez has been great since going back to QC. He has a 1.20 ERA in three starts for the River Bandits.

LINE OF THE WEEK:

Cesar Valdez, RHP, 06/16/16: 9.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 K (WIN)

Teoscar Hernandez, OF, 06/15/16: 3-for-5, 2 R, 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI
