Houston Astros Minor League Recap: May 31st

Astros minor league teams start a new month today. See how the teams and prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (22-28) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Musgrove was on the mound last night but got off to a rough start giving up a 3 run HR in the first inning. He would end up going 5 innings allowing 4 earned runs with just 1 strikeout. Fresno’s offense was quiet until the 7th inning where they put up 3 runs thanks to a Duffy RBI single, and a Singleton 2 run single. Unfortunately they weren’t able to score any more and fell 5-3.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (30-20) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Nice comeback win for Corpus. Sneed got the start last night and while he wasn’t as sharp as we have seen in the past (4 BB), he only allowed 1 earned run over 4 innings of work. Corpus tied the game in the 6th when Teoscar doubled and eventually score on an error. Freeman came in and gave up 2 runs. The Hooks would go into the 9th down 3-1, and that is when the rally started. The rally went like this: Bregman walk, Fisher single, Davis RBI single, wild pitch (Fisher to 3rd, Davis to 2nd), McDonald 2 run single to take a 4-3 lead. McCurry picked up the save striking out two in the 9th.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (25-26)

GAME 1 – won 9-4 (BOX SCORE)

This was technically the second game of the season that they were making up from April 8th. They resumed played with Lancaster already winning 4-1. Martin helped Lancaster jumped back on the board with a solo HR in the 5th inning. He now has 8 HR on the season. Recently promoted Mizell hit a solo HR in his first at bat for Lancaster. The Jethawks would add two more in the 7th and 1 more run in the 9th. Bower pitched the majority of the game for Lancaster striking out 8 over 4.2 innings. Deemes closed it out getting the last batter to fly out.

  • Matt Bower, LHP: 4.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 K
  • Ryan Deemes, RHP: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

GAME 2 – lost 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

This was the makeup of a game postponed on April 9th. Lancaster jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a Ferguson RBI double in the 3rd inning. Winkelman got the start and gave up 4 runs, all unearned, over 4 innings of work. Unfortunately the offense wasn’t able to get anything else going.
