Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 19th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (31-37) lost 1-0 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno just couldn’t get the offense going in this one ultimately losing in 12. Hauschild got the start and pitched very well going 7 innings allowing no runs with 6 strikeouts. The bullpen initially was great. Fields 1.2 scoreless innings and Chapman got the only batter he faced out. Gustave came in and threw two scoreless innings before turning it over to Guduan. In the bottom of the 12th a single and two walks loaded the bases, fortunately Guduan walked the next hitter and Tacoma won it. Of note on the offensive side, both Reed and Moran had two hits. Oh, and Moran played shortstop for the first time in his career.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (46-23) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus just keeps on rolling. They jumped out to an early lead with 4 runs in the first inning. In that inning that got RBIs from Davis, Gregor, Tanielu, and Pena. In the 2nd inning they would add another 3 runs on a 2 run double from Gregor and an RBI single from Tanielu. They would get one more in the 3rd on an RBI single from Teoscar. Yuhl got the start and pitched another great game. He went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs, 0 earned, with 3 strikeouts. Freeman pitched the last 2 innings giving up 2 runs but the offense did more than enough to hold on for the win.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (34-35) lost 12-2 (BOX SCORE)

Pitching staff got roughed up a bit in this one. Deetz got the start and pitched well through the first 3 innings but ran into trouble in the 4th and 5th. He ended up going 5.1 innings allowing 5 runs, 3 earned. Unfortunately, the bullpen didn’t do much better. Comer 5 runs in 1.2 innings and Thome allowed 2 runs in 2 innings. Lancaster got both of their runs in the 5th on a Mizell groundout and Ferguson RBI double. Lancaster only managed four hits on the night.

  • Dean Deetz, RHP: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 5 K

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (31-38) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Good win for QC before the All-Star break. Ferrell got the start and put together his second straight really good start. He went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) with 4 strikeouts. Quad Cities got their scoring started with a Duarte RBI single in the 3rd and Straw coming around to score on a wild pitch. They would add two more in the 5th thanks to RBI doubles from Avea and Straw. Whitt closed the game out giving up 1 run in the 9th but QC was able to hold on for the win.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (1-2) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

All the scoring came in one inning in this one. Nicely got the start for Tri-City and tossed four shutout innings. The ValleyCats got on the board in the 7th when Robinson plated Benedetti with an RBI single. Pinales, who relieved Nicely, gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th, the only runs he would allow in his 3 innings of work. Tri-City had a couple on in the 9th but couldn’t convert losing 2-1.

Today’s starters according to MiLB.com:

FRE: Thomas Shirley (5.46 ERA)

CC: Kent Emanuel (2.95 ERA)

LAN: OFF (All-Star Break)

QC: OFF (All-Star Break)

TC: TBD
