Houston Astros Minor League Recap: May 24th

All four teams in the Astros system were in action with the Grizzlies, Hooks, and Jethawks winning. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (19-25) won 14-3 (BOX SCORE)

Nice win for Fresno as they inch back to .500. They got off to a good start in the bottom of the 1st when Matt Duffy hit a 3 run HR. In the bottom of the third Duffy homered again, this time a 2 run shot. Stassi added an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0. In the bottom of the 5th they put up four runs with an RBI double from Kemmer, sac fly from Fontana, and a 2 run double from Singleton. Fresno wasn’t done there either as they would score two in the 6th and then Singleton capped off the scoring with a solo HR, his 13th of the season and 3rd in last two games. Valdez got the start and gave up 1 run over 5 innings of work. Fields and Guduan both allowed one run but the offense had more than enough runs to win it.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (27-17) won 7-4 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus flexed their muscles early in this one. In the bottom of the first Alex Bregman hit a solo HR to left (12). Fisher would single bringing up JD Davis who knocked a 2 run HR to left center, his 8th HR. Cy Sneed got the start and was great through the first 5 innings he allowed just one hit, a solo HR. He ran into a bit of trouble in the 6th but ended up allowing just 2 ER in 5.2 innings. Corpus added three more runs in the 5th with a 2 run single from Fisher and Bregman scoring on a fielder’s choice. Gonzalez added an RBI triple to cap the scoring. Peterson and McCurry both allowed one run in their outings but Corpus offense gave them plenty of wiggle room.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (20-23) won 11-9 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster breaks out the bats with 11 runs on 11 hits. They got out to a quick start with 6 runs on just 4 hits in the first inning. They got RBIs from Laureano, Muniz, Ritchie, Sewald, and Trompiz. They would continue to play add on with a run in the 2nd inning (Ritchie sac fly), 3rd inning (Martin HR #4), and 4th inning (Nunez scoring on wild pitch). Dykxhoorn got the start and allowed 4 runs, just 1 earned, over 5 innings with 6 strikeouts. They would add another run in the 6th and one more in the 7th on a Martin RBI double. Dorris was dominant closing the game out with 5 K in just 2.1 scoreless innings.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (18-26) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Quad Cities offense falls short in tough loss. Perez got the start and pitched really well allowing just 1 run over 4 innings. Keep in mind he is only 18 years old playing in a league where the aveage age is nearly 22 years old. Whitt added a scoreless inning. McCanna pitched the last three innings allowing just 1 run. QC’s offense was able to scratch across 1 run in the 9th with Wernes scoring on a wild pitch, but that is all they would get.

Today’s starters according to MiLB.com:

FRE: Joe Musgrove (2.45 ERA)

CC: Keegan Yuhl (3.26 ERA)

LAN: Elieser Hernandez (7.18 ERA)

QC: Makay Nelson (3.86 ERA)
